Sicilian Baroque Tour and Montalbano Tour

​This program has been designed to allow you to savor the best of what our territory can offer in a few, but essential, days; we will take you to discover Modica and its chocolate, Caltagirone and its nativity scenes, Syracuse and Noto, Ragusa, Scicli and the places of Montalbano.
  • 1° Day 22/12 or 29/12: Vittoria, Comiso and Donnafugata
Morning dedicated to visiting Vittoria, the city of Liberty and wine (Cerasuolo), where we will visit the historic center crossing Via Cavour, the "natural" shopping center of Vittoria, with its numerous shops of all kinds located in the rooms ground floor of the buildings of the nineteenth-century bourgeoisie; along Via Cavour we will cross Piazza del Popolo where we will be able to admire the Municipal Theater and the adjacent Church of the Grazie, built in Neoclassical style the first and Late Baroque the second, until we reach the Church of San Giovanni Battista, patron saint of the city; on Saturday you can't help but take a walk among the stalls of the "weekly fair".
In the afternoon, transfer to Comiso to take a walk through the streets of the picturesque historic center of medieval origin, where we can admire Piazza Fonte Diana with the Town Hall and the Roman Baths of Diana, found under the road; a few steps away we find the Basilica of Maria SS. Annunziata, the Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Stelle or Mother Church and the Church of San Biagio, patron saint of the city, in front of which stands the Castello dei Naselli d'Aragona from the Renaissance period. In the late afternoon, transfer to Donnafugata, an eighteenth-century residence surrounded by nature, where it will be possible to dine at one of the characteristic restaurants present; in the evening, upon request and with a supplement, it will be possible to move to Marina di Ragusa for an "after-dinner" and a relaxing walk.

 
  • 2° Day 23/12 or 30/12: Tour of the places of Montalbano, Ragusa, Modica, Scicli and Punta Secca
8.30 am departure for Ragusa “Superiore” from which, after having walked the main streets and visited the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, we will descend towards “Ibla” the most picturesque part of the city with its houses perched on the slopes of the hills; here we will have the opportunity to admire some of the most beautiful baroque buildings including Palazzo Cosentini, Palazzo La Rocca and the Cathedral of San Giorgio.
In the late morning transfer to Modica, visit to the "Alta" part where we will see the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista and, walking along the suggestive streets, we will reach the Castello dei Conti; continuing our walk we couldn't help but notice the Cathedral of San Giorgio, the eighteenth-century "mother church" of Modica built in Baroque style; going down the 164 steps of the scenic staircase, we will reach Modica "Bassa", the true heart and historic center of the city, full of palaces and churches as well as shops and clubs where we will entertain ourselves for lunch.
In the afternoon we will move to Scicli, the most "scenic" of the Baroque cities, chosen by director Sironi as the backdrop for Montalbano's "Vigata" and home, among other things, to the building used as the Commissariat in the famous TV series; subsequently, along the wonderful coast, we will reach the seaside village of Punta Secca, home to the villa known as the "House of Montalbano" in the town of Marinella.

 
  • 3° Day 24/12 or 31/12: Syracuse - Noto
8.30 am departure for Syracuse, visit to the Archaeological Park of Neapolis where the Greek Theatre, the Roman Amphitheater and the Ear of Dionysius are located; subsequently we will move to the Island of Ortigia, the ancient Polis of Syracousai, where starting from the remains of the Temple of Apollo and going up the characteristic streets, we will reach Piazza Duomo where the Cathedral of the Nativity of Maria Santissima dominates, an imposing church built by incorporating the columns and the structure of the Doric Temple dedicated to Athena. Return in the evening for dinner.
 
  • 4° Day 25/12 or 01/01/19: Nativity Scenes of Caltagirone
3.00 pm departure for Caltagirone, the city of ceramics, where we will visit the historic center characterized by the Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte with its 142 steps in lava stone decorated with polychrome ceramic tiles, we will see the Cathedral of San Giuliano and the Public Garden ; Furthermore, during the Christmas period, it is possible to visit various representations of artistic nativity scenes.
 
  • 5° Day 26/12 or 02/01/19: Etna and Taormina
8.00 am departure for Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe, where we will arrive around 10.30 am and will have time to visit the Silvestri Craters, to take a ride on the cable car and to do some shopping among souvenir shops; after lunch we will move to Taormina, the "capital" of Sicilian tourism, as well as an ancient village rich in history and culture perched on the slopes of the Nebrodi Mountains.
All tours will be carried out with 8-seater minibuses driven by professional drivers who will also act as your guide in the places you will visit.
